First Museumnacht The HagueArtistic mix after hours on Saturday, September 4, 2010
The Hague, Thursday July 15, 2010 - The success of the Museumnacht in Amsterdam and Rotterdam has inspired The Hague to organise a similar after hours event. The 'Royal Residence' is home to many art and culture lovers and has numerous interesting museums to offer. More than 20 participating organisations, including museums, galleries, the Royal Library, the Dutch House of Commons (Tweede Kamer), Pulchri and Stroom will do their utmost to make this an unforgettable event and offer their visitors an unprecedented opportunity to an artistic mix. Their doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and close late at night. Each location is offering a unique programme to suit the night's special and overall theme: Mix it, don't miss it. Inspiration In other cities, the Museumnacht has proven to be a successful concept and a source of inspiration. The event is an opportunity to introduce young people to local museums in an accessible and special way, and helps to stimulate further co-operation between museums and businesses. Ultimately, Museumnacht The Hague should contribute to the realisation of the city's ambition to become Europe's Cultural Capital in 2018. Places to be The enthusiastic participants have each put together a serie of inspiring and stimulating activities and performances. Some highlights: Escher in het Paleis at the Lange Voorhout organises a masked ball. The Museum for Communication will be dedicated to glamorous Hollywood through training and discovering promising actors. The facade of the Municipal Museum (Gemeentemuseum) shall be used as an outdoor movie screen, the Literary Museum (Letterkundig Museum) and the Royal Library (Koninklijke Bibliotheek) will host a literary festival. Leading night writers and toe readers have been invited to perform and a so-called twitter fountain will be installed. But there is more, such as night surfing at Muzee Scheveningen, and a twilight torch trip, revealing the bloody past of the Museum Prisongate (Gevangenpoort). The varied program has a lot to offer, so Mix it and do NOT miss it! If you need further information, please visit www.museumnachtdenhaag.nl.
